Move-to-Cloud: Migration at Linde Material Handling

SaaS solution for greater scalability and efficiency

Ergosign has been supporting Linde Material Handling for several years as a full-service partner in the development and implementation of its global web presence. As part of a comprehensive relaunch based on a Digital Experience Platform (DXP) and the FirstSpirit CMS, a consistent digital appearance was created for more than 60 country- and dealer-specific websites. More details on this DXP project can be found in our case study.

In a follow-up project, the next strategic step was to transition the technical operation of the platforms to a modern, SaaS-based cloud environment. The goal was to operate web projects more efficiently, accelerate development cycles, improve performance, and reliably deliver digital services worldwide.

The challenge

Linde Material Handling operates over 60 websites in various languages and for a wide range of global markets. The core challenge was to fully and securely migrate all web projects, content, and systems to the cloud environment without disrupting ongoing operations. A particular challenge was the lossless transfer of the extensive, multilingual content inventory to ensure a seamless user experience and consistent brand communication.

Our ApproachMove-to-Cloud: Our migration strategy

The focus was on a structured and low-risk migration of the existing web projects to the SaaS-based cloud platform. To maintain familiar editorial workflows, the proven FirstSpirit CMS continues to be used, while the technical foundation was completely transitioned to a scalable cloud architecture.

Our services included:

  • Joint planning and management of the cloud migration with Linde Material Handling and the internal IT department.

  • Development and adaptation of the web projects for the cloud environment.

  • Ensuring a complete and lossless content migration together with internal IT.

  • Ongoing content support to ensure smooth operations during and after the migration.

Our ApproachStep-by-step migration to a SaaS-based cloud platform

The migration followed a structured Move-to-Cloud approach, emphasizing technical security, organizational transparency, and collaborative partnership:

  • Analysis & strategy:

Together with Linde Material Handling, an evaluation was conducted to determine which system components should be moved to the cloud. The FirstSpirit CMS was retained to ensure seamless editorial continuity.

  • Planning & execution:

The technical migration was carried out step by step, in close coordination with Crownpeak and Linde Material Handling. Key priorities included precise project management, adaptation of web projects, and comprehensive quality assurance of the content migration.

  • Continuous support:

Even after the migration was completed, Ergosign and Crownpeak continued to support the editorial team with technical assistance to ensure smooth operations and enable further development.

The ResultSuccessful cloud migration with measurable benefits – faster load times, improved performance, optimized processes

Thanks to close collaboration between all stakeholders, the migration of several projects could be carried out in parallel and without disruption.
The new cloud infrastructure combines scalability, efficiency, and future-readiness in a centralized yet flexible system architecture.
With the switch to the SaaS solution, Linde Material Handling's digital infrastructure has been sustainably modernized: load times have noticeably decreased, servers respond significantly faster, and the development team benefits from optimized, largely automated workflows, eliminating the need for manual interim steps.
Another advantage: the new platform enables direct access to features such as the Translation Studio, allowing faster and more consistent content localization. The product database is also now more stable and globally accessible – a clear win for international scalability. The project demonstrates that a strategically planned cloud migration is a key driver of digital efficiency, future-proof IT structures, and brand strength.
